  • Freshwater pearls are cultured by inserting tiny pieces of mantle tissue into freshwater mussels. The mussel then coats this tissue with layers of nacre (the iridescent substance that forms the pearl) over several years, creating a pearl.

  • Unless specifically mentioned on the specific product page, pearls used on the jewellery are freshwater pearls, grown in mussels and cultured in pearl farms located in China.

  • The term “fish bites” when referring to pearls are the blemishes or irregularities found on the surface of pearls. These are not bites from fishes but they occur during the growth process of the pearl.

    This is common especially for natural grown pearls. They are natural imperfections of the pearl and a reminder that even beautiful things have them.
